The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 165 is proud to announce their Inaugural McMurray Marksman Competition with Special Guest, Mr. Rob Furlong!

The Royal Canadian Legion, in partnership with the Fort McMurray Fish and Game Association, will be testing the shooting skills of the people of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo to find out who deserves the title of McMurray Marksman!

When: Saturday, May 26, 2018
Where: The Fort McMurray Fish and Game Association Firing Range (15kms South on Hwy 63), with an Awards Ceremony to follow in the Legion Clubhouse (9317 Huggard Street)
Early Bird Entry Fee until May 1: $125.00, Regular Entry Fee after May 1: $150.00
Deadline for Entries: May 20

The Royal Canadian Legion has been in operation in Fort McMurray since 1949, serving our Veterans, enlisted soldiers and RCMP officers by offering support and a place to gather together and enjoy a good meal. A lot has changed in the last 70 years, and while our core values have remained the same, we are working toward becoming more involved in the community. With this in mind, we are pleased to announce our McMurray Marksman competition!

The competition is open to all members of the community over the age of 18 who have a valid PAL and a .22 Long rifle and is composed of three separate mini competitions, 25 yards, 55 yards and a ten-target timed shoot. There will be awards for the winner of each, plus the best overall who will be named the McMurray Marksman 2018 and have his or her name on a plaque in the Legion!

Special Guest Rob Furlong, owner of Rob Furlong’s Marksmanship Academy in Edmonton, served in Afghanistan with the Princess Patricia’s Light Infantry as a sniper and had the distinction of holding the record for the longest distance confirmed sniper kill from 2002 to 2009 at a distance of 2430 metres (or 2.5 kilometres) and was awarded the Bronze Star. He will be there throughout the day, talking with participants about his time in the military and his Marksmanship Academy and demonstrating his skill with a rifle.

Registration forms can be picked up at the Legion during regular office hours Tuesday – Sunday between 9am and close.
